Financial Impact from Spring 2007 Recall is Real
Although Pet Food Institute announced that consumer confidence was not shaken by the recall, based on a survey that was performed for the group, it does seem that the sales figures might contradict this a bit. It is certainly possible that the 305 products that ended up as part of the recall could have been responsible for the tens of millions of dollars of sales losses, but it seems more likely that this financial impact was at least in part the result of the loss of consumer confidence and a move to homemade diets and other alternatives over the lengthy course of continued recall announcements.
